It Was A Jumble Sale
LISTEN NOW
It was a jumble sale
Cluttered with the fragments of those misshapen months
A sudden Volcanic eruption of words, and then the lack of words
Hollowing the landscape
the careful navigation into
each death ravaged syllable
tattered landmarks, hallmarks, like gruesome tattoos
The meticulous peeling of the tremulous skin of the paper birch
I approach each cacophonous table of memories,
The one where you …..
The one where you …
Purposefully unremembering as I go
I thought you could smell the scent of moose
Grazing in the weed greedy lake
I thought you could let the waves crash over you
Inhaling the salty water loving it for the medicine that it was
Feel the heavy suction of the water ladle sand over your feet as they were swallowed into the very edge of the shallows.
At first it was all so confusing
How to steer and keep afloat
Without the precautionary warnings
There were the webs of words, the commas, the full stops
Speaking out of unison, unconnected
I can say
That in some
Little moments
I am clean and free
Having now and then hiked back
To the pine high forest
When I fall and keep falling
Into the soft sweet scent
Of decaying leaves under my 10 year old feet
